Best spots to propose in Washington DC with a view of The Washington Monument

Best spots to propose in Washington DC with a view of The Washington Monument:

The Washington Monument is one of the most iconic buildings in Washington DC and a popular backdrop for surprise proposal and engagement photos! It’s one of the most commonly requested backdrops as the tallest structure in DC at 555 feet! There are some great spots with a direct uninterrupted view of the monument. This post is a list of 4 of my favorite spots to photographer a surprise proposal with the iconic view. Please get in touch for more details in planning for each location as I have photographed over 200 proposals in DC and several dozen with this view! I will happily describe each location in more detail and give you further intructions on the best spot to stand to get an amazing shot!

Lincoln Memorial: One of the most popular views! If you go inside the columns of The Lincoln you have the PERFECT view of The Reflecting Pool, Washington Monument, and Capitol Building behind you! This is a beautiful shot and one of the most commonly requested for proposal photography. This area can be tricky as normally there are a bit of tourist at the Lincoln. Early morning and sunrise is highly recommended for avoiding tourist and the best light! After the proposal you can get some great shots in between the columns and with the Lincoln and Reflecting Pool behind you. Right in the same area: The Reflecting Pool is another great proposal shot with the Washington Monument behind you.

Constitution Gardens: Typically a lot less busy then The Lincoln Memorial area. This spot is a hidden gem. Normally very privately and not a high traffic area. This spot is a small patch of land surrounded by a pond with a direct view of the monument. Afterwards there are trees and grassy areas near by for additional photos.

The Capitol Building: Another great view of the Washington Monument is from right in front of The Capitol building! You have a straight on shot of The Mall and the monument in the background. During the spring there are also cherry blossom trees and tulips nearby for photos after the proposal! A great spot if you’re checking out the sites or walking your dog on the hill!

Tidal Basin & Jefferson Memorial: Another great view of The Washington Monument is by proposing in front of The Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin! The water and line of trees behind you makes for a great backdrop along with the memorial! This is also a popular spot during The Cherry Blossom Festival as the blossoms will be in bloom as well in this area!
