Lincoln Memorial DC Engagement Session
After Surmeet’s surprise proposal at the bar they first met at in DC earlier in the week, we scheduled an engagement session at The Lincoln Memorial for additional photos! The Lincoln Memorial is one of my favorite monuments in DC for engagement photos! Plenty of options and spots to visit including the columns, the view from the columns, The Reflecting Pool, plus trees and grassy areas nearby! My favorite shot is where we started in between the columns with the iconic DC view of The Reflecting Pool, followed by the Washington Monument and Capitol Building. Consider an early morning sunrise session for the best time of day to go to avoid tourists! A sunrise session is also a great idea during the summer to avoid the heat!
Aside from engagement and other sessions, the Lincoln is also a popular spot for surprise proposals! If you’re interested in scheduling a session, reach out today to learn more! I’m happy to help you plan for your session.

Planning a Surprise Proposal at The Lincoln Memorial
Planning a surprise proposal at The Lincoln Memorial
The Lincoln Memorial is one of the most iconic spots in Washington DC attracting thousands of tourist per year. The memorial has an amazing view of The Washington Monument and is walkable to many other DC memorials. The Lincoln Memorial is one of the popular locations in Washington DC for surprise proposals and engagement sessions!
My favorite spot for a proposal is inside the memorial between the columns with a view of The Washington Monument as seen in the two images below! To get this shot I coordinate to direct my clients on which side of the memorial to propose on. Sometimes there may be tourist around this area and in that case I would suggest walking around a moment until those tourist leave or walk away. Sometimes you just need some luck. Weekends can be busier and summer is busier for tourist. By going to the memorial during less busy times you can succed in getting this amazing shot without any tourist in the shot.
If you want to have The Lincoln Memorial in your photo you can also propose in front of the memorial at the bottom of the steps! This is another great option, however you will have tourist in the shot behind you and maybe some onlookers!
A third option is to propose near The Reflecting Pool in front of The Lincoln Memorial with a view of The Washington Monument! This is a great option since tourist won't be in your image with the water.
After the proposal there are lots of great locations within walking distance for additional portraits! Here are some of my favorite images:

The Lincoln Memorial is one of my favorite monuments and I have captured many surprise proposals here! After this proposal we walked around the front of the memorial and along the reflecting pool and captured more portrais! Congratulations to this newly engaged couple!
Lincoln Memorial Surprise Proposal & Cherry Blossom Engagement Session
Nic proposed to his girlfriend surrounded my many tourist in DC for The Cherry Blossom Festival in front of The Lincoln Memorial! After waling down the steps of the monument he got on his knee and presented the ring as I was there to capture the moment! I love working with couples to plan their proposal and then capture the moment as it unfolds! After the proposal we walked near the the water by the memorial to capture some Cherry Blossom images with the iconic trees. Ending the session we captured some beautiful shots with the sunset! Congratulations!
Washington DC Self Certified Marriage at Sunrise | Washington DC Wedding Photographer
Amazing portraits at the Lincoln Memorial without tourist? No better time to go this at sunrise! George and Tomas chose to have a self-certified marriage in front of DC's best monuments. Washington D.C. along with only a few states allows self certified marriages where you can be legally married without the presence without the presence of a third-party officiant. In addition to DC, Pennslyvania, Colorado and Wisconsin also allow self-certified marriages.
I was so excited to hear that this soon to be married couple was interested in a sunrise session! Without a sunrise session it is extremely difficult to get some of these images we achieved without crowds or tourist around, especially during high peak season like summer. Another advantage is the beautiful light that is available at this time.
We started their portrait session just after sunrise around 5:30am at The Lincoln Memorial. No one was inside the memorial! My favorite shots are from inside the memorial with the silhoutte looking out at the rest of The National Mall.
Early morning champagne toast!
