Shenandoah National Park Surprise Proposal at Hawksbill Summit
Hawksbill Summit is about a 1.5 hour roundtrip hike to a beautiful view of the Shenandoah Valley with a 690 foot elevation! The hiking path is located near mile marker 46. A shorter, yet steeper, route to Shenandoah’s highest peak. The viewing platform on top of Hawksbill offers a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view of the Shenandoah Valley, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Virginia Piedmont. For this surprise proposal I hiked to the top ahead of the couple to photograph the surprise proposal moment! Afterward we did some additional engagement photos with the view and near the viewing platform. If you are considering proposing at Shenandoah National Park, this hike is a great option!

“I hired Jon for a surprise proposal at Arlington National Cemetery. I am so happy that I did! Jon was incredibly kind and friendly throughout the entire process, and was able to capture the genuine emotion of the moment. His photography skills are some of the best I’ve ever seen. Jon was very responsive and flexible, even when we had to change plans the night before, he was able to adjust without issue. Jon takes his work seriously and went to the site a week before to ensure he could capture the right angles/lighting. He also got the full gallery to us the very next day which we were very happy about. I was incredibly impressed with the entire experience and know that if you hire him you’ll be glad you did.”

Washington DC Constitution Gardens Winter Surprise Proposal
Constitution Gardens in Washington DC is located between The Washington Monument and The Lincoln Memorial on part of The Mall. It’s a small piece of land surrounded by a pond that is accessible by a small wooden bridge. It makes a great proposal location for a perfect unobtrusive view of The Washington Monument in the background. The location is very private and normally has few tourist in the area as many of the tourist spend time at the nearby memorials. This makes for the perfect location that includes the view of the monuments without the large crowds of tourist. This spot also commonly has ducks and lots of greenery surrounding.
After the proposal moment some friends rushed over to congratulate the newly engaged couple! Capturing the reactions of the friends was also a great moment! Including friends or family after your surprise proposal is a great way to have a second surprise and get photos with those friends and family members as well as more great reaction shots!

Washington DC Botanical Gardens Surprise Proposal Photography
Captured this surprise proposal recently in the tropics exhibit at The Botanical Gardens in Washington DC! During the day of the surprise proposal it was raining outside so we had to change to an indoor location. The botanical gardens made a great spot covered from the rain and cold of winter. The tropics exhibit was humid but at the time is was the spot with the least amount of tourist and most ideal location was up on the walkway. After the marriage proposal we walked through all the exhibits to capture portraits. The botanical gardens is a great indoor location for surprise proposals during the winter or a plan B in case of rain outdoors. Other great indoor location include: The National Gallery of Art, National Portrait Gallery, Library of Congress and Union Station.

A Georgetown Waterfront surprise proposal and engagement session! This proposal took place at the waterfront! Afterwards we walked by some of the best spots for portraits including the restaurant where this couple went one one of their first dates! Picking a location that has meaning is a great ideal when planning a surprise proposal! The bridge that goes over the canal is also a great spot to go for portraits.

Jefferson Memorial Surprise Proposal & Engagement Session
The Jefferson Memorial is always an iconic location for a surprise proposal not only during The Cherry Blossoms but year around! For this proposal I captured the moment from inside the columns with the view of The Washington Monument in the background! The sides of the memorial always work great as there are less tourist then in the center or on the steps of the memorial. We did some portraits around the backside and down in front with The Tidal Basin after the proposal and of course a ring shot! The Jefferson Memorial honors our countries third president and over looks that Tidal Basin which is surrounded by the cherry trees gifted by Japan. The cherry trees bloom once a year for a short period. The peak bloom is a very popular time for photography in the DC area!

Surprise Proposals at The Inn at Little Washington
The Inn at Little Washington is a cute scenic location and a private romantic spot for a surprise proposal with The Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. The Inn at Little Washington in Washington, Virginia about an hour and a half outside Washington DC is made up of Victorian buildings on the main street of a the town of Washington less then a mile from Route 211 and right near the border of Shenandoah National Park. The Shenandoah Valley area is beatiful at all times of year especially in spring and fall. My favorite spot for a surprise proposal on the property of the inn is the large pen field with the mountain view! After the moment the garden area behind the inn makes a great location for portraits! The Inn at Little Washington also host weddings!
